• Why do horses need martingales? 

  • A martingale is a piece of tack designed to control a horse's head carriage and act as an additional form of control to the bit. Martingales prevents a horse from throwing its head too high – which can result in the rider being hit by the horse's neck or poll.

• Can you use a martingale and breastplate together? 

  • The Martingales and breastplates can play a significant role in how well you can enjoy the overall riding experience from your horse. The breastplates with martingale attachment are designed to mitigate head throwing and will also prevent your saddle from slipping out of position, by neatly attaching to the saddle.
