Description

‘Flavius’ is a handsome and very large F H Ayres rocking horse on a safety stand, c1900.

Flavius is a beautiful and extra large – 57 inches from floor to the tips of his ears – fully original example of a  dappled rocking horse from the renowned London makers F H Ayres. His beautiful original paintwork still shows off  his colours, and he has lifelike glass eyes with a very friendly face and good solid proportions, so would be a great addition to any home where an original look is your preference. In addition he has a number 6 carved into his forehead, this is thought to be connected to the worker that made the horse rather than size, although those with a number 6 are large horses. We have stabilised his paintwork and worked on his stand which was in pieces when he arrived  so he is now ready to go again with many, many years ahead of him.

This model is made from top quality materials so Flavius is a really solid horse and at his size will command any room he is put in. F H Ayres are known as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of rocking horse makers and a horse of this quality would most likely have been sold in Harrods and Selfridges. A lovely horse, he is fit and ready – just looking for his new home.
