Mila

‘Mila’ is a beautiful F H Ayres “D” Type rocking horse on her original safety stand.

‘Mila’ is a very rare and special F H Ayres ‘D’ type rocking horse on the original D type safety stand, and the stand has the stencil “Patented 29 Jan 1880”. She has a wonderful lifelike stance, with a very turned neck and head facing toward her right. She has a beautifully detailed face with glass eyes, and even has a carved tongue. Her whole body is extra carved with wonderful muscle detail and tone, showing off her muscular legs and neck – this model is such a delight for a horse lover to just admire.

The stand was in a poor state but is now restored but we have retained as much of the look and patina we can, with the fluted runners this model is known for and their additional widening of the wood in the centre of the runner. We have managed to rescue her original leatherwork, and after a lot of work it now looks suitable again for this very special piece. 

We have had to totally refinish Mila as she came to us in a poor state, however we have stayed true to the original look and dappling patterns. We have shown the photographs here we have of her whilst she is still at our lovely paintwork restorers, but now you have the chance to decide what colour and length of hair and tail we fit her with, so if you love a blond flowing mane and tail you can choose that, or a black and fiery look if you prefer – just let us know and we will do our very best to make Mila into your dream vision.

The ‘D’ type was the best quality horse made by F H Ayres and dates from around 1935. These are highly sought after and rarely come to market – a true collectors piece.

Mila is truly a special horse and a very desirable investment.
